Health & Wellness Coach, Shaina Corrales, Shares How to Build Healthy Habits to Others on Social Media

Posted by Jade Marvin on 3/14/23 4:00 PM

Before SWIHA, life was a little out of focus and I felt a call to do something to help educate others about taking care of their bodies with nutrition. I had seriously considered a traditional course in nutrition at a community college for a bachelor's degree. I didn't see a good fit with that type of schooling and heard through a friend about this school's holistic nutrition courses. I am here because I see all the reactive actions people take in their lives to combat illness and lead a less-than-desired lifestyle, I truly wish to make a difference for the current generations as well as move forward to be a proactive society.”

Why Urban Farmer, Mecca Bey, Combines her Love for Nutrition with Coaching

Posted by Jade Marvin on 3/9/23 4:00 PM

My life before SWIHA was and is purpose-driven, which is why SWIHA was always on my path. I had been seeing advertisements for SWIHA about two years prior to me actually reaching out to sign up, I even had SWIHA send me a catalog of the courses. It wasn't until I started really wanting to know more about the food I grow that I said ‘Okay let me really look into this school.’ I chose my program of study because I wanted to have more education and knowledge about food and how it affects our bodies and our communities. I'm passionate about this modality because food is and has always been our future for how we see the world. It either brings us together or breaks us apart.”

How Health & Wellness Coach Carrie Ann Myers Fell Back in Love with Holistic Nutrition

Posted by Jade Marvin on 3/7/23 4:00 PM

My life before SWIHA was pretty much ‘going through the same old thing.’ I loved to cook and was always making food and giving it away and making my friends try it. I was stuck making food from the same ingredients I always have. I wanted something more and wanted to find different ways to learn about the foods that I was making and what nutritional value they had. I love to see people eat good food and feel good about it. Knowing that the food was organic, healthy, and fun to make was what I wanted to share with people.”

How Wellness Coach Jamie Jones Spreads her Passion for Wellness with Others

Posted by Jade Marvin on 2/28/23 4:00 PM

Before SWIHA I was lost wondering what route I should take in my career. I've always been into fitness and holistic health. As a personal trainer and aerobics instructor, I knew I wanted to build upon my knowledge to help others. I remember looking into SWIHA over 10 years ago. For years it was always a distant dream to be a student until it finally became a reality thanks to the universe. The Holistic Nutrition and Wellness Coaching diploma got my attention quickly as it seemed to cover some of the topics I was passionate about. At a young age dealing with chronic illness, I've learned the value of giving my body nourishing whole foods and taking care of every aspect of well-being to live one's best life. I now want to share this knowledge and passion with the world to help other people with their personal wellness journey.

Enjoying the Entrepreneurial Journey

Posted by Chelle Baltzor on 2/23/23 4:00 PM

What is an entrepreneur? Oxford dictionary defines an entrepreneur as someone who makes money by starting or running businesses, especially when this involves taking financial risks.

Me? I say it's a dreamer who makes their dream a reality. An entrepreneur can be a seven-year-old girl who is holding a weekend bake sale and lemonade stand to earn money for that new Barbie Van so her dolls can tour the countryside of her backyard. The fourteen-year-old boy that mows lawns to save for that 1969 mustang when he turns sixteen. Even the fifty-year-old woman putting herself through school to start her practice and help guide women through mid-life because of the struggles she endures herself.

I enrolled in the Southwest Institute of Natural Aesthetics, desiring to learn more about natural skincare and the actual industry. I chose this path to fulfill the dream of opening a spa with my sister. After providing services in the healthcare industry for thirty-seven years as a nurse and in various healthcare management roles, the time had come for a career change. I reached a point in my life where I needed to shift focus to preventive care and health maintenance rather than sickness, disease, and death.

The Importance of Supporting Local Farms

Posted by Alexa Young on 2/7/23 4:00 PM

Farmers' Markets, Community Supported Agriculture, and purchasing from local farms have become an upward trend in the last few years, and rightfully so. As a Holistic Nutritionist and Wellness Coach, if I could recommend ONE diet change before anything else, it would be to eat locally. Not only is it better for your health to eat local, organic, and pesticide-free foods, it is also better for the environment. You have a larger variety of seasonal foods to choose from, it aids your local economy and puts money back into small businesses and farms, it strengthens community connections, and of course, the food is just fresher and tastes better!
