Sometimes, the path forward begins when life changes in ways we never expected.
For Dodielynn Huckaby, becoming a student at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA) came during one of the most difficult chapters of her life. A newly grieving widow and mother of nine, Dodielynn found herself facing a future very different from the one she had imagined with her husband. In the midst of grief, she knew she needed a new direction—to help herself heal and to discover how she could eventually help others navigate their own difficult seasons.
Her search led her to SWIHA, where she began studying in the IntegrativeHealing Arts Practitioner program, while also pursuing coursework in End-of-Life Doula and Modern Spirituality Celebrant.
What began as a search for healing has become a journey of purpose, self-discovery, and service.

Have you ever had a feeling that you should take a certain path, call someone, wait before making a decision, or simply trust what you already know—even when you couldn't quite explain why?
That feeling may be your intuition speaking.
Intuition is often described as an inner knowing: information, awareness, or insight that seems to arise without a lengthy process of conscious reasoning. For many people, intuition can feel like a quiet nudge, a feeling in the body, a sudden insight, a sense of clarity, or an unmistakable “knowing.”

For Julia Compton, choosing an education in the healing arts was about more than learning new modalities—it was about answering a deeper calling.
After more than a decade working in the cannabis industry, Julia had already spent years helping people explore wellness, education, and alternative approaches to healing. Yet her own journey was leading her somewhere deeper: toward understanding the nervous system, trauma, embodiment, self-discovery, and the many ways people can reconnect with themselves.
That calling ultimately brought Julia from Michigan to Arizona, specifically to study at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA).

For recent Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA) graduate Suzanne Harvin, that path began with a feeling many people know all too well: working in a career that no longer aligned with who she truly was.
Today, Suzanne is preparing to launch a holistic healing business rooted in Intuitive Coaching, Reiki, Yoga Nidra Meditation, Sacred Earth Ceremonies, and Creative Arts Workshops. Her journey through SWIHA's Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner (IHAP) Diploma with a specialty in Healing Botanicals & Earth Ceremonies helped transform a dream into a clear vision—and gave her the confidence to build a career centered around healing others.

For decades, conversations around mental and emotional wellness have centered on the mind. While thoughts, beliefs, and emotions are essential parts of the healing process, today's research continues to reinforce something holistic practitioners have understood for years: the body remembers.
Stress, trauma, and life's experiences don't simply live in our thoughts—they are carried within our nervous system, posture, breath, and physical responses.
