At some point in life, many of us feel a deep inner calling—a whisper that says, “There’s more for you out there.” For Paulette Brown, a retired police officer with a lifelong passion for helping others, that call came with a desire for a new beginning. She knew she wanted to live a more meaningful life, one aligned with spiritual purpose and healing service. That calling led her straight to Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA), where she enrolled in the Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner (IHAP) program with the dream of becoming a Spiritual Life Coach.
A New Chapter, A New Purpose
Before SWIHA, Paulette had already lived a life of service—protecting and supporting her community with strength and compassion. Yet, she was ready for a different kind of service. “I wanted a new beginning,” she shared. “I was eager to learn new skills to promote overall growth.” What inspired her most was the opportunity to guide, motivate, and lead others through healing and personal transformation.
The IHAP program felt like the perfect fit. It offered her a diverse set of tools and techniques—everything from holistic coaching strategies to powerful healing modalities—that aligned with her desire to serve others on a deeper level. “I wanted to become educated to fulfill my calling,” she said. And through her studies, Paulette found not only education, she found connection.
Finding Healing in the Process
One of the most powerful parts of Paulette’s journey was the healing she experienced while learning to help others heal. “A defining moment for me was when I realized I was healing in many areas of my own life through my studies,” she asserts. “That experience showed me new ways to help others who are going through life's challenges.”
As she deepened her knowledge, she also built a strong sense of community—even while attending classes online. “It was comforting to hear different perspectives from classmates,” Paulette proclaims. “As a single woman, I finally felt like I belonged to something that felt like home.”
From Growth to Guidance
Once Paulette completes her program, she will take her vision forward as an entrepreneur with plans to launch a home-based spiritual life coaching business. Her services will include life coaching, end-of-life doula support, celebrant ceremonies, Yoga Nidra, and more. She’s open to offering workshops and presentations, and even partnering with organizations through contract work to support their communities.
Combining the wisdom from her law enforcement career with the transformational skills learned at SWIHA, Paulette is uniquely equipped to serve with empathy, presence, and deep understanding. “I bring the same honorable qualities to my clients that I did as a police officer,” she shares.
Lessons in Resilience and Power
Reflecting on her time at SWIHA, Paulette emphasizes the inner strength and growth the program helped her uncover. “Even when going through challenging times, never give up—there is light at the end of the tunnel,” asserts Paulette. “I learned I was more powerful than I thought, and I can do anything I put my mind to.”
Words of Wisdom for Future Students
To those considering walking a similar path, Paulette offers heartfelt encouragement:
“Apply yourself and see the program through to the end. The road isn’t always easy, yet you have all you need inside of you to win. Challenges come to make you strong. Never give up on your dreams. Attending SWIHA was the best choice I ever made.”
Serving with Heart
As Paulette steps into her next chapter, she carries with her a deep dedication to helping others navigate life’s challenges with honesty, compassion, and empathy. Her journey is a powerful reminder that it's never too late to start again, to follow your calling, and to become a healing force in the world.
Thank you, Paulette, for your inspiring service, both past and present. The SWIHA community is proud to call you one of our own.
