Have you ever felt called to help people create healthier, more balanced lives—and wanted an education that looks beyond a single aspect of wellness?
A career in Holistic Health & Wellness Coaching can give you the opportunity to support people as they explore their physical, mental, emotional, and overall well-being. At the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA), our Holistic Health & Wellness Coaching Diploma is designed to help aspiring wellness professionals turn their passion for holistic health into meaningful work.
With a comprehensive curriculum that combines holistic nutrition, transformational psychology, coaching skills, practical herbalism, urban gardening, and entrepreneurship, SWIHA’s program takes a whole-person approach to wellness education.
What Is a Holistic Health & Wellness Coach?
A holistic health and wellness coach supports clients as they identify wellness goals, develop sustainable habits, and create meaningful changes in their lives.
Rather than focusing on one isolated area of health, holistic coaching considers the interconnected nature of the mind, body, lifestyle, environment, and personal well-being.
At SWIHA, students learn how to use coaching techniques and holistic health knowledge to empower clients to better understand themselves and take an active role in their wellness journey.
This can make holistic health coaching an exciting path for people who are passionate about wellness, personal growth, education, and helping others.
Explore a Whole-Person Approach to Wellness
One of the unique aspects of SWIHA’s Holistic Health & Wellness Coaching program is the breadth of its curriculum.
Throughout the 755-hour diploma program, students explore multiple areas of holistic wellness, including:
Holistic Nutrition
Food plays an important role in overall well-being. Students explore nutrition through a holistic lens and learn how to help clients develop more conscious and sustainable approaches to nourishment.
Transformational Psychology
Understanding behavior, mindset, and personal transformation can be an important part of helping clients create lasting change. Students explore psychology and personal growth as they develop their coaching skills.
Coaching Skills
Being knowledgeable about wellness is only one part of becoming an effective coach. Students learn practical coaching techniques designed to help them communicate with clients, encourage accountability, and facilitate meaningful conversations.
Urban Gardening & Practical Herbalism
SWIHA’s updated curriculum also brings students closer to nature through urban gardening and practical herbalism. Students explore ways to grow herbs and incorporate sustainable, nature-based practices into their understanding of wellness.
Entrepreneurship & Business Development
For students who dream of creating their own wellness business, developing professional and entrepreneurial skills can be an important part of the journey. SWIHA’s program includes business-focused education designed to help students explore ways to put their knowledge into practice.
Prepare for Opportunities in the Wellness Industry
A holistic health and wellness education can open the door to a variety of professional possibilities.
Graduates may choose to build a private coaching practice, incorporate wellness coaching into an existing practice, or explore opportunities in settings such as corporate wellness, integrative healthcare, and community wellness education.
For students interested in pursuing national board certification, SWIHA’s program is aligned with the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC). Graduates may be eligible to complete the remaining NBHWC requirements and sit for the board exam, which is administered separately from SWIHA.
This gives students the opportunity to build a strong educational foundation while considering where they want their wellness career to take them.
Your Education Can Be Part of Your Own Wellness Journey
Learning how to support others can also inspire you to look more deeply at your own relationship with wellness.
As you study nutrition, psychology, coaching, sustainable living, herbalism, and personal transformation, you have opportunities to connect what you are learning with your own life.
For many aspiring wellness professionals, that personal connection is part of what makes this field so meaningful.
You don't have to have everything figured out before beginning.
You simply need a desire to learn, a passion for wellness, and a willingness to grow.
