For Darcie Huffman, the path to becoming a Holistic Health and Wellness Coach wasn’t a sudden decision—it was a calling that had been quietly unfolding for years. With a professional background in property management and a creative spirit rooted in art—having even owned her own studio—Darcie’s life has always been a blend of structure and self-expression. Yet beneath it all, there was a deeper interest guiding her forward.

I have always been interested in holistic health,” she shares. “I am passionate about holistic health and wellness because I understand and have witnessed the benefits and results of holistic living.

That passion, paired with lived experience, ultimately led her to the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA), where she enrolled in the Holistic Health and Wellness Coaching program.

Trusting the Timing

Sometimes, the right opportunity appears more than once—yet it’s the timing that makes all the difference.

I had looked at SWIHA previously; however, the timing wasn’t right,” Darcie explains. “I knew it was time when I started because of where I was in my life, professionally and personally.”

That sense of readiness became her foundation. Stepping into the program wasn’t just about learning something new—it was about stepping into alignment with a path she had long been drawn to.

Living What You Learn

As Darcie progressed through her studies, the transformation wasn’t limited to the classroom—it became part of her everyday life.

I now incorporate this lifestyle into my daily routine and find myself talking with others about this change in casual conversation,” she says.

Holistic wellness, for Darcie, is no longer just a passion—it’s a way of being. From mindfulness and self-care to deeper awareness of how we nourish ourselves, her education has seamlessly woven into how she shows up for herself and others.

Building a Vision for What’s Next

Now, as she prepares to graduate, Darcie is stepping into a new chapter—one that blends her professional experience, creativity, and passion for wellness.

Currently working part-time in property management, she is also dedicating time to building her holistic health and wellness business. From developing her website and marketing strategy to refining her offerings, she is laying the groundwork for a meaningful and purpose-driven career.

Attending SWIHA and participating in this program has inspired me to start my own business,” she shares.

Her future offerings will include holistic health and wellness coaching, meal planning, educational sessions, and even her “newly found love of culinary/food photography”—a unique fusion of nourishment and creativity that reflects her personal journey.

Strength Through Life’s Hardest Moments

Darcie’s story is also one of profound resilience.

Nearly a year ago, she faced an unimaginable situation when her boyfriend suffered severe burns in a devastating accident at their home.

I honestly believe I handled our situation with more grace, more resilience, and more GRIT than I ever would have if I had not been working through this program with SWIHA,” she reflects.

In the midst of trauma, she leaned into the very tools she was learning—mindfulness, emotional awareness, and self-care.

I utilized so many things I had already learned, and what was still waiting for me to learn carried me through to now. I am forever grateful.

Her experience is a powerful testament to the real-life impact of holistic education—as a career path and as a way to navigate life’s most challenging moments.

Lessons That Last a Lifetime

When asked about the greatest lesson she’s learned, Darcie’s answer is both simple and profound:

To not quit or give up. To take some time if needed… and just keep going.”

It’s a mindset that has carried her through personal hardship, academic challenges, and the process of building something new.

Through it all, she has learned to navigate life with greater mindfulness, reflection, and compassion—for herself and others.

The Power of Supportive Teachers

Darcie credits much of her growth to the guidance of her instructors, especially Dee McCaffrey and Sharlene Nordquist, whose support and wisdom helped shape her experience.

Their mentorship, combined with SWIHA’s holistic approach to education, created a space where Darcie could grow as a student and as a person.

A Message for Future Students

For anyone considering the path Darcie has taken, her advice is heartfelt and encouraging:

Do it. Take the classes. Don’t give up. The gifts you will receive and the gifts you will share with others are priceless. You are needed.”

A Journey Rooted in Purpose

As Darcie Huffman steps into her next chapter, she carries with her more than a certification—she carries resilience, purpose, and a deep commitment to helping others live well.

Balancing her role as a caregiver, supporting her family—including her young grandson—and building her business, she embodies what it means to create a life aligned with passion and meaning.

Her journey is a reminder that it’s never too late to follow what calls you—and that sometimes, the most powerful transformations come not just from what we learn, rather from how we live it.
