Happy National Peanut Cluster Day!! Here’s to another calendar holiday you didn’t know you needed in your life. What’s not to love? Peanuts? Chocolate!? Give it to me! Peanut Clusters are the perfect combination of salty and sweet. The first retail peanut clusters were introduced in 1912 and were called the ‘Goo Goo Cluster’. Peanut Clusters were so popular with soldiers that they were even shipped weekly during World War II to those fighting the front lines. So, on this glorious holiday that mixes everyone's two favorite things: peanuts and chocolate - we must celebrate with a delicious recipe!

Peanut Clusters are relatively super easy to make! This can be a delectable dessert that's ready in minutes. You basically melt the chocolate, add the peanuts, stir them together, and then let them harden! Here is an exact recipe below:

Chocolate Peanut Clusters

Ingredients:

-       2 pounds white candy coating, coarsely chopped

-       1 package (12oz) semisweet chocolate chips

-       1 package (11-½ oz.) milk chocolate chips

-       5 cups salted dry-roasted peanuts

Directions:

-       In a heavy saucepan over low heat, cook and stir candy coating and chips until melted and smooth. Cool for 10 minutes; stir in peanuts.

-       Drop by rounded tablespoonful onto waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Refrigerate until firm, about 45 minutes.

And for our readers who have a peanut allergy or don’t like peanuts - here is an almond alternative so that you can join in on the fun!

Almond Joy Fudge

2 cups             Coconut Nectar

2 cups             Coconut Oil

• If coconut oil is solid, place the container in a sink of hot water to melt it first. Then put both of the ingredients in a high powered blender and add;

1 cup               Raw Cocoa Powder

• Blend well, then pour the mixture into a bowl and stir in:

2 cups             Shredded Unsweetened Coconut

2 cups             Chopped Almonds (soaked and dehydrated)

• Pour the mixture into a 9 x 13 pan and chill 2 hours. Cut into squares and serve.

Chocolate was originally known for its flavor before Joseph Fry in 1847 mixed the simple bitter chocolate with the cocoa butter and molded it. This creation was widely accepted by the public and once the method of molding chocolate was introduced to the world, a lot of people started experimenting with new things like mixing chocolate and dried fruits and so much more. Eventually - this brought us the ultimate balance of salty and sweet …the PEANUT CLUSTER!
