I Made a Vision Board & This is What it Taught Me About My Goals (You Should Do It For 2019!)

Hello everyone! Taylor here.

Being immersed in SWIHA-land for the past three years, I’ve heard a lot about vision boards. In fact, many of my coworkers keep them in their offices. They’re full of travel photos, symbols of prosperity and health, wishes for love and plenty of inspirational quotes. I love looking at other’s vision boards because I get to learn so much about their dreams and priorities.

With the new year approaching at lightspeed, I’ve been thinking about what I’d like to accomplish in 2019. So, I woke up this morning and decided to create my very first vision board! I grabbed my scissors and glue, found an unused canvas and began hunting for old magazines…to no avail. My on-going quest to live minimally has me reading digital copies of everything and immediately recycling junk mail.

However, I was not to be deterred! After a few minutes of searching, I found an article about “digital vision boards”. As someone whose job requires me to spend most of the day on a computer, it was perfect for me since I could set it as my desktop background upon completion.

My final product ended up representing my 2019 goals perfectly!

What I Learned Through My Vision Board:

I focused heavily on photos that represented what I desired to feel, as well as sprinkled in a few material goodies for myself (because why not, right?). As I examined the final product, I learned quite a few things about myself!

My big picture pieces:

  • I desire to connect more with nature, specifically through physical activity outdoors.
  • Health in all realms (relationships, physical, financial) is becoming a priority for me.
  • I’m becoming more career-oriented and am ready to become more serious about my future.
  • A change of scenery is needed, through travel or moving or even just a weekend getaway to the woods.

The smaller things:

  • I want to wake up earlier and be more productive in the morning.
  • My yoga practice makes me happy and I’m determined to accomplish dancer pose this year.
  • I’d love to live downtown and be able to walk everywhere.
  • Strengthening my personal relationships is something I’d like to focus on.
  • A bigger kitchen would be fabulous (please and thank you!) so that I’m more excited to cook at home.

Why You Should Create Your 2019 Vision Board:

Vision boards are a great way to connect deeper to your goals by getting really specific on what exactly you’d like to accomplish. During the process of making it, you clarify your true objectives. It’s a physical representation of your priorities and dreams and a reminder that they’re tangible!

Your vision board should evoke hope within you and inspire you to keep pursuing your passions. It can feature role models, vacation destinations, your favorite song lyrics or a drawing of your dream home. If you’re a budding entrepreneur, write down your business goals for 2019 and surround them with hearts or other meaningful symbols. You truly can manifest anything you design!

Here’s some fascinating facts to get you started:

  • For centuries, professional athletes have been using visualization techniques to achieve their goals.
  • Different brain patterns are activated by visualizing outcomes versus simply considering an idea.
  • By placing it somewhere you’ll see it often, you will subconsciously begin to seek those things.

I asked our SWIHA commUNITY to share their personal vision boards. Browse them below for some inspiration!

Life Coaching: The Art of Achievement

Serendipituously, January 2019 is Life Coaching month here at SWIHA!

Life Coaches are like living, breathing vision boards, in that they help their clients determine their ultimate potential and assist them in reaching those goals. Life coaches provide support and motivation to aid others in finding career success, meaningful relationships, financial security, and a more satisfying life in general.

The rising popularity in people seeking coaching services is due mainly to the increased interest in holistic wellness modalities as a whole. SWIHA’s Life Coaching program is based on the belief that we all contain an inherent “knowing” and that the answers we seek are already present inside of us. Through learning specific tools and knowing how to ask the right questions, you can become an effective coach that guides others toward the rapid attainment of their goals!
