From Middle School Secretary to Holistic Practitioner: Scherrie Blake’s New Calling

Written by Jade Marvin | 8/11/25 3:00 PM

Before stepping into her healing journey, Scherrie Blake found herself navigating a season of loss—romantic breakups, family fractures, and friendship fallouts. “I was desperate for answers,” she recalls. “I needed to understand why I had to experience so much pain, even though I was a good person.” That search for meaning led her to shadow work—and eventually to the Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner (IHAP) program at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA).

Her path to enrollment wasn’t linear. Initially forced to withdraw due to financial constraints, Scherrie didn’t give up. “I was still desperate to learn,” she said. “Eventually, a job opportunity came along that helped me pay for school and ended up being the job that’s going to support my future business helping troubled children.”

Awakening to Purpose

Scherrie’s defining moment came when she began taking her spiritual gifts seriously. “That’s when I started losing people I thought would stick with me,” she says. Rather than letting this derail her, she saw it as divine alignment. “I get confirmation daily that I’m on the right path—and no one can mess it up except me.”

Her time at SWIHA has been transformational. “I’ve grown so much. I’m more observant, less gullible. My discernment has increased. My circle is smaller, yet stronger,” she shares. Scherrie has come to understand that not everyone is meant to walk this spiritual path with her—and that’s okay. “The right people will gravitate toward us.”

Building a Heart-Centered Business

Currently, Scherrie works full-time as an attendance and athletic secretary at a middle school—a role that unexpectedly aligned with her purpose. “I knew I wanted to work with troubled children due to my own lack of support growing up,” she says. “The students began flocking to me. I realized I was acting as a counselor more than anything, and I said to myself, ‘I need to start a healing business.’

Though her business hasn’t officially launched, Scherrie is actively preparing for it. Her vision includes intuitive life coaching, Reiki, readings, workshops, public speaking, and a podcast and YouTube channel focused on community healing. She plans to work primarily online, creating accessible content and services for youth and adults alike.

SWIHA's Role in Her Evolution

The tools Scherrie gained at SWIHA were more than academic—they were personal. “I learned how to stay grounded and aligned, and I now feel confident sharing those tools with clients because they’ve worked for me,” she explains. “I used to struggle with recognizing my own gifts; however, I now realize they were never waiting for my permission—they were just waiting for me to show up.”

Her most impactful teachers—Lori Dye and Gisele Marasca—created an immersive and supportive learning environment. “They made me feel like I was really in the classroom. They were present, helpful, and they made things make sense.” Her favorite courses included entrepreneurship, spiritual coaching, and end-of-life doula services, all of which she plans to weave into her work.

A Message to Future Healers

Scherrie’s advice to future SWIHA students is heartfelt:

“Take your time. Get ahead on assignments so you can review later. It’s a lot of information, yet it syncs with your life and excites you to learn more. Don’t be afraid to ask questions—you’re not alone, and you’ll feel at home.”

As she organizes her services and prepares for her full launch, Scherrie remains rooted in her mission: to help others, especially young people, rediscover their worth and healing power. With her father recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s, her timing at SWIHA couldn’t have been more divine. “SWIHA has come at the right time to help me help him.”

Scherrie’s story is a testament to the power of trusting your path, even when it’s unclear at first. With passion, perseverance, and the right guidance, she transformed personal pain into purposeful service. As she continues building her healing business, Scherrie is committed to uplifting others—especially young people—by helping them reconnect with their own inner power. If you feel called to support your community through holistic healing, SWIHA’s Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner program might just be the first step toward your own transformation.
