“Before SWIHA I was lost wondering what route I should take in my career. I've always been into fitness and holistic health. As a personal trainer and aerobics instructor, I knew I wanted to build upon my knowledge to help others. I remember looking into SWIHA over 10 years ago. For years it was always a distant dream to be a student until it finally became a reality thanks to the universe. The Holistic Nutrition and Wellness Coaching diploma got my attention quickly as it seemed to cover some of the topics I was passionate about. At a young age dealing with chronic illness, I've learned the value of giving my body nourishing whole foods and taking care of every aspect of well-being to live one's best life. I now want to share this knowledge and passion with the world to help other people with their personal wellness journey.”

Life before SWIHA for Mari Rubio was filled with many life-altering moments. Mari, having already been exposed to the power of Hypnotherapy, was sharing the methodology of HypnoBirthing with expectant parents. Mari shares, “Through this work, I started to develop a fascination with the powers of the mind. I wanted to learn how hypnosis could be applied to other areas. I was certified in general hypnosis in 2018, just a year before I lost my husband of 19 years unexpectedly to pneumonia. In evaluating my life and purpose, I decided I wanted to further explore hypnosis.” Thus began Mari’s journey at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts when she enrolled in the Hypnotherapy program in 2020 to gain a deeper understanding of the various Hypnosis applications.

“I was led to SWIHA by my intuition and my growing need to help others live a healthier and happier life. I knew that our health and wellness needed to be more important than any of the other things we put first in our busy lives. To be honest, I did not have a clue where this would take me or what a “Health and Wellness Coach” was. Yet, I still followed my intuition and drive to be able to grow my own knowledge of holistic wellness and ultimately help others to start putting their health and wellness first!”

Farmers' Markets, Community Supported Agriculture, and purchasing from local farms have become an upward trend in the last few years, and rightfully so. As a Holistic Nutritionist and Wellness Coach, if I could recommend ONE diet change before anything else, it would be to eat locally. Not only is it better for your health to eat local, organic, and pesticide-free foods, it is also better for the environment. You have a larger variety of seasonal foods to choose from, it aids your local economy and puts money back into small businesses and farms, it strengthens community connections, and of course, the food is just fresher and tastes better!

Are you speaking your truth, listening to your gut, and TRUSTING YOUR INTUITION?
We all know this is all very important while on your journey to self-worth.
Do you ever stop sharing a piece of your life because you feel it has no value? Yet, you have no idea who it might inspire?
I get random people telling me how much I inspire them and how much my words or videos made them feel. Not listening to my intuition has happened to me countless times. Yet, I remember when I stopped myself from sharing because I thought it would be too cringy.

What SWIHA program(s) did you graduate from?:
I chose the Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner program with a focus in Hypnotherapy. I chose hypnotherapy as my specialty because it felt safe and more accepted than what I initially wanted to study. After starting school, I began my Holistic Wellness Coach courses and quickly found I was not being true to myself, or authentic in how I wanted to show up as a Practitioner. I changed my specialties from hypnotherapy which did not resonate for me, to Traditional Reiki, Polarity Practitioner Program, and Holy Reiki.

Have you ever been told that you are too sensitive, too touchy, that you take things too personally, or even that you are too nice to people? I hear these things on a daily basis and if you have been told these things, chances are you could be a Highly Sensitive Person too. We are all sensitive to some degree; however, some of us are HSP (Highly Sensitive Persons). I am HSP. What is HSP and how do you get it? This is what I have learned about HSP. First, let me clarify that HSP is not a disorder, condition, or diagnosis, it’s a personality trait also known as sensory processing sensitivity (SPS) and approximately 15% to 20% of the population are HSP. Highly Sensitive People process all information more deeply including all types of stimuli such as emotions, what they see, hear, feel, and touch and are aware of subtleties that other people miss.

“I knew I wanted to be a part of the Holistic Wellness industry 12 years ago when I started a new job working at Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center in Tempe, Arizona. This was my first introduction to what holistic medicine was and what it meant to view the body as a "whole" rather than just the symptom. I quickly grew passionate and learned that whole food nutrition is a necessary part to bring the body into balance. In 2009, I became a massage therapist and practiced for 5 years. I was passionate about massage therapy and eager to learn more. Little did I know, I was led to dive deep into my passion for helping my clients.”

“My life before SWIHA was quite different; I worked in a stressful career that was no longer fulfilling for me. However, I knew I wanted to help people and make a difference. SWIHA helped me realize I could have the life I wanted, make changes, and learn new skills to accomplish those goals. My husband was the one who encouraged me to become a Reiki Practitioner, and a friend of mine who is a Reiki Master said to look for an in-person school to learn Reiki. So I searched for schools, and that was how I found SWIHA. So why am I passionate about Reiki? When you see what a difference it makes in other people's lives for the better - when the client says the Reiki is working.”
