Sometimes, the next chapter of life begins when we realize the current one no longer feels quite right.

For Tara Rice, that realization came after selling her previous business, beginning a new career in real estate, and spending time reflecting on what she truly wanted for the future. Although she enjoyed her new career, something still felt missing.

“*I still found myself going through my days with a lack of fulfillment, anxiety, and insomnia*,” Tara shares. “*This pushed me to think forward, find my desire to seek change, and ultimately begin to find my authentic self again*.”

That search ultimately led Tara to the [Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA)](https://swiha.edu/all-healing-arts-holistic-health-education-programs/), where she enrolled in the [Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner program](https://swiha.edu/integrative-healing-arts-practitioner-programs/).

## **From Psychology and Behavior Analysis to Holistic Healing**

Tara entered SWIHA with years of experience supporting others. Her professional background includes psychology, behavior analysis, and working with individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. She also brought experience as an entrepreneur and a natural desire to help people navigate challenges and create meaningful change.

“*I have always been drawn to integrative modalities and helping people*,” Tara says.

At SWIHA, she found an opportunity to build upon her previous experience while exploring holistic approaches that resonated with her personally and professionally. She became particularly interested in hypnotherapy, life coaching, and chakra work, discovering new ways to understand healing, personal growth, and transformation. Her time at SWIHA also encouraged her to look inward.

“*I have learned so much about these different modalities and about myself*,” Tara says. “*My past traumas, my healing, and my ongoing growth.*”

Through the process, she began creating healthier daily routines, prioritizing self-care, and recognizing experiences and patterns she wanted to resolve and release.

## **Finding Strength Through Life's Unexpected Challenges**

Tara describes her SWIHA journey as a roller coaster of emotions, discoveries, and personal growth. Along the way, she faced one of the most unexpected challenges of her life.

In January, Tara received a uterine cancer diagnosis that led to a radical hysterectomy.

While she is still processing the experience, she credits the tools and practices she was learning through her SWIHA education with helping her navigate an incredibly challenging season.

“*Learning to create time for self-care, meditation, goal setting, journaling, to name a few, has been very transformative for me*,” she shares.

For Tara, the experience reinforced an important lesson: healing is not necessarily a destination. It can be an ongoing process of recognizing, resolving, releasing, and continuing to grow.

“*I share this to show others that no matter what life challenges we face, our ability to conquer them is limitless.*”

## **Turning a Personal Journey Into a New Purpose**

As Tara approaches the completion of her Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner program, she is preparing to bring everything she has learned together in a new professional chapter.

She has already taken important steps toward building her own practice, [**Living Journey Healing Arts**](https://livingjourneyhealing.com/), including establishing her LLC and EIN and beginning work on her website.

Tara is also certified as an advanced hypnotherapist through the International Medical, Dental and Hypnotherapy Association (IMDHA).

Her vision for Living Journey Healing Arts is rooted in the skills she has developed throughout her career and her SWIHA education.

She hopes to support clients through [life coaching](https://swiha.edu/life-coaching-programs/) and [hypnotherapy](https://swiha.edu/hypnotherapy-training-programs/), drawing upon her background in behavior analysis, leadership, and problem-solving while incorporating the empathy and listening skills she has strengthened through her personal and educational journey.

“*My mission is to support and mentor clients through Life Coaching and Hypnotherapy using my skills as an effective and empathetic listener*,” Tara explains.

She plans to help clients establish realistic and effective goals for personal change and growth, creating plans that can be tracked and measured along the way so clients can recognize and celebrate their progress. Tara also hopes to eventually lead workshops and group sessions, allowing her to connect with and support even more people in her community.

## **Embracing a New Beginning at 55**

Starting something new can be intimidating at any age. For Tara, beginning a new educational journey and preparing to launch another business after 50 came with plenty of uncertainty.

“*I am excited, yet a bit nervous about starting another new business at 55*,” she says.

Still, her experience has taught her that fear does not have to determine what comes next.

“*One of the greatest lessons I learned while at SWIHA is that life is filled with ups and downs*,” Tara says. “*I don't have to hold on to fear of failure, and everything I do does not need to be perfect.*”

That willingness to keep moving forward has become an important part of Tara’s journey.

Her advice to future SWIHA students is simple:

“*Stay committed, immerse yourself in the process even when things get challenging.*”

## **Continuing the Journey**

Tara credits SWIHA instructors Sherry Gilbert, Linda Bennett, and Sherry Fragosa as especially impactful during her studies. She particularly enjoyed her hypnotherapy classes and was drawn to TC640 and chakra work. She also found inspiration in the SWIHA online community, describing it as relatable, supportive, and encouraging.

Now, as she prepares to complete her program and fully launch Living Journey Healing Arts, Tara is looking forward to what comes next.

Her daughter, who is also a SWINA graduate and now practices as a holistic esthetician, has already become part of that vision. The two are exploring opportunities to collaborate and potentially bring their complementary approaches together.

For Tara, this next chapter is about more than starting another business. It is about taking everything she has learned—from her professional experience, personal challenges, education, and ongoing healing—and using it to support others on their own journeys.

## **Begin Your Own Healing Journey at SWIHA**

Tara’s story is a reminder that education can be part of a much larger personal journey.
