Rebuilding Life Through Healing: Anna Kajner's Journey from Dental Hygienist to Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner

Written by Jade Marvin | 6/29/26 3:00 PM

Life doesn't always unfold according to plan. Sometimes the path we've carefully built changes in an instant, requiring us to discover strengths we never knew we had. For Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA) student Anna Kajner, an unexpected career-ending injury became the catalyst for a profound personal and professional transformation.

Currently enrolled in the Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner (IHAP) Program and having previously completed Hypnotherapy Foundations I-III, Anna's journey is a powerful reminder that healing often begins when we are willing to embrace change and trust where life is leading us.

When One Chapter Ends, Another Begins

For more than two decades, Anna worked as a dental hygienist, building meaningful relationships with her patients while quietly nurturing a growing interest in holistic wellness.

"I was a dental hygienist for 23 years and had been educating myself on the side for the past eight years to build a wellness business," Anna shares.

When nerve damage in her hand forced her into early retirement, everything changed.

"Poof, my life disappeared before my eyes, and I had to go on disability."

While many would have seen this as an ending, Anna chose to see it as an opportunity. Through a reeducation program, she finally pursued the advanced hypnotherapy training she had been longing to complete since 2022.

Having already experienced SWIHA through the Hypnotherapy program, returning felt like the natural next step.

Connecting the Dots

One of the most powerful aspects of holistic education is how seemingly separate experiences begin to weave together into a meaningful whole.

For Anna, the journey started years earlier with life coaching training, followed by energy healing studies and hypnotherapy.

"I knew I was on the right path when all the dots on my journey started to connect."

Each modality expanded her understanding of healing and deepened her ability to support others. Rather than focusing solely on symptoms, Anna became passionate about helping clients uncover the root causes behind their challenges.

"I am passionate about getting to the root of the issue and not just using a bandage to cover it up. I love digging deep and helping people see true healing."

This integrative approach is one of the core principles of the IHAP program, where students learn to combine multiple healing modalities into a personalized and impactful practice.

A Healing Journey of Her Own

Like many SWIHA students, Anna discovered that holistic education is never just about learning techniques—it's about personal transformation.

"My life has drastically changed," she says. "I tell people my school is like Hogwarts School, with all the modalities spun into one. I learn, apply it to myself, heal, and then teach others. It's one big healing journey."

The process hasn't always been easy. Healing often involves confronting old wounds, expanding perspectives, and stepping outside comfort zones. Yet for Anna, that growth has been one of the most rewarding parts of her education.

"It's a rollercoaster of emotions, and I love every minute of it."

Building a Business Rooted in Authentic Healing

Long before her retirement from dental hygiene, Anna knew she wanted to create a business centered around helping people transform their lives.

In 2018, she asked herself a simple yet powerful question:

"What could I do that I do already?"

The answer was clear. Throughout her dental career, patients often sought her out for dental care and for conversation, encouragement, and support.

"People related to me, or I could relate to them in a comforting way."

Today, she is rebuilding and rebranding her wellness business, offering services including:

  • - Hypnotherapy Programs
  • - Transformational Coaching
  • - Emotion Code Sessions
  • - Reiki

Anna believes her ability to help clients stems from her willingness to go deeper than surface-level solutions.

"I always seem to sense what isn't being said. I have a knack for uncovering the root of an issue and have the tools to help guide the client to resolution."

The education and personal growth she has experienced at SWIHA continue to strengthen both her confidence and her capabilities as a practitioner.

Discovering Strength Through Challenge

When asked about the greatest lesson she learned at SWIHA, Anna doesn't hesitate.

"My ability to accomplish what I put my mind to. SWIHA just gave me more direction."

While she has always possessed determination, the challenges of balancing school, life transitions, and rebuilding a career have revealed even greater resilience.

"I had grit before, yet I would say I have a boatload more now."

That perseverance has helped her continue moving forward, even when the journey has felt difficult.

"The last part of school has been challenging; however, I dig deep and carry on to reach my goals."

The Power of Compassionate Teachers

A meaningful educational experience is often shaped by the people who guide us along the way.

For Anna, one instructor stood out in particular.

"Sherry Gilbert. It seemed I could just feel her energy, and it was caring and thoughtful, with a wealth of knowledge behind it."

She describes Sherry as a safe space—someone who supported her learning and her personal healing journey.

"She helped with some deep healing and went out of her way to find certain scripts that pertained to the situation."

Anna also credits instructor Giselle for making a lasting impact during her studies.

Advice for Future SWIHA Students

For anyone considering a holistic education, Anna encourages students to fully embrace the experience.

"Dive deep and truly enjoy the unraveling of your own journey to have all the experiences to help others."

Her belief is simple yet profound: the most effective practitioners are often those who have done their own healing work first.

"Every trauma I have faced, I heal on my own with a modality and then become the practitioner of that modality."

It's a philosophy that reflects the heart of integrative healing—learning through education and lived experience.
