Life has a way of guiding us toward growth when we're ready for it.
For recent Southwest Institute of Healing Arts graduate Relynn Arwood, that journey began during a season of major transition. After years of dedicating herself to raising her young children, she found herself searching for something more—a path that would allow her to reconnect with herself, continue growing, and create a future aligned with her deepest values.
That search led her to SWIHA's Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner (IHAP) Diploma Program.
Before attending SWIHA, Relynn describes her life as chaotic and centered almost entirely around caring for others. Relynn asserts, "Before attending SWIHA, my life was chaotic and mostly centered around raising my young children, with very little structure or time for myself."
As her youngest child began moving beyond the toddler years, Relynn recognized an opportunity to rediscover herself and explore what she wanted for her future. "I found SWIHA during a period of transition in my life and realized I wanted to create a more meaningful path for myself," expressed Relynn.
Drawn to healing, personal growth, and helping others, the Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner program felt like a natural fit. Relynn states, "I chose to study IHAP because I'm passionate about healing, personal growth, and helping others while also growing into the person I want to become."
While many students enroll at SWIHA seeking professional training, they often discover something deeper along the way.
For Relynn, the transformation extended far beyond the classroom.
"I knew I was on the right path when I began noticing changes in myself beyond the classroom—becoming more confident, self-aware, and intentional in the way I approached both my life and relationships."
What started as a practical step toward building a new future evolved into a profound personal journey. "What started as a step toward building a future for myself turned into a deeper journey of healing and personal transformation." That realization helped her understand that IHAP wasn't simply a program—it was a calling that resonated with who she was becoming.
One of the most powerful aspects of holistic education is that it often transforms the practitioner as much as it equips them to help others.
For Relynn, the changes have been significant. "I've grown into a more confident, self-aware, and purposeful version of myself, both personally and professionally."
The shift from constant caregiving and survival mode to intentional living has created space for new possibilities. "What once felt like a chaotic stage of survival and constant caregiving has transformed into a period of growth, balance, and intention."
Today, she feels connected to a future that authentically reflects who she is.
When asked about the greatest lessons she learned at SWIHA, Relynn points to the importance of self-awareness and living intentionally. "One of the greatest lessons I learned at SWIHA was the importance of self-awareness and intentional living."
She also discovered that healing is not a destination; it’s an ongoing process. "I learned that healing and growth are ongoing processes, and that taking care of myself is just as important as caring for others."
These lessons continue to shape how she approaches both her personal life and her future professional goals.
One of the unique aspects of the SWIHA experience is the diversity of instructors, each bringing their own perspective and wisdom.
Rather than naming a single favorite teacher, Relynn reflects on the collective impact of every instructor she encountered. "Every teacher I studied with at SWIHA has had an impact on me in their own way." She credits her instructors with providing encouragement, insight, and practical tools that continue to support her growth today.
Likewise, every class offered something valuable. "Each one added a new layer to my understanding of healing, self-awareness, and personal development."
Now a graduate, Relynn is embracing the next chapter with curiosity and intention.
While she is still discovering exactly where her path will lead, she feels more aligned than ever before. "I'm much closer to understanding the direction I want my life to take."
Rather than simply moving through each day, she is actively creating a future that reflects her authentic self. "I'm focused on continuing to grow, learning more about myself, and moving forward with purpose instead of just surviving day to day."
For those considering a holistic education, Relynn encourages future students to trust the process.
"Stay open to the process and trust your own growth, even when it feels uncomfortable or uncertain."
She emphasizes that SWIHA offers more than academic knowledge—it offers opportunities for personal transformation. "This experience isn't just about learning material... It's also about learning yourself." Her advice is simple yet powerful: "The more present and engaged you are, the more you'll get out of it, both personally and professionally."
Perhaps the most inspiring part of Relynn's story is her willingness to embrace growth without needing all the answers. Relynn states, "If there's one thing I'd want you to know about me, my work, and my journey, it's that I'm still in the process of becoming."
Her journey reminds us that transformation doesn't require perfection. It simply requires the courage to begin. Through the Integrative Healing Arts Practitioner program, Relynn found more than an education. She found a pathway back to herself—a place to grow, heal, and build a future rooted in purpose.
And like so many SWIHA graduates, she's proof that it's never too late to reconnect with who you are and discover who you're becoming.
